ONLY CANADIAN FIRM RECOGNIZED IN DEVELOPING WORLD TECHNOLOGY CATEGORY FOR PLANNED PROJECT TO EDUCATE LEADERS AT NONPROFITS WORLDWIDE VIA FREE ONLINE SIMULATIONS
FINALISTS AND WINNERS TO BE HIGHLIGHTED
IN FAST COMPANY’S MAY ISSUE
New York and Toronto — A plan to develop a new generation of leaders at nonprofit organizations around the globe by Experience It inc., a Toronto-based experiential design company, today has won recognition from Fast Company as a finalist in the publication’s World Changing Ideas Awards.
The only Canadian company nominated for Fast Company’s Developing World Technology category, Experience It will offer Infinity – its online immersive leadership simulations proven in leadership development programs at companies like GE and Mercedes-Benz. It will be available for free to mission-driven, not-for-profit organizations serving neighborhoods, municipalities, nations and the world. The first of three “episodes” in the Infinity simulation experience is available now, with the remaining scheduled to launch later this year. Experience It also plans to offer an online forum in which nonprofit leaders can share experiences and make connections. This project is funded through the fees it collects from for-profit firms’ use of the Infinity trilogy.
Don Jones, founding president of Experience It inc., said the organization was honored to be named a finalist among such prestigious global organizations as MasterCard, Unicef, and Vodafone. “Now more than ever, the world needs well-prepared, thoughtful leadership at every level of society, and Experience It is stepping up to develop them,” Jones said. “A lot of people don’t have access to strong leadership development resources and this will really help them. Connecting them with other leaders around the world will accelerate their development.”
Fast Company is today announcing the winners of its World Changing Ideas Awards, which honor businesses, policies, projects, and concepts that offer innovative solutions to the issues facing humanity. All of the finalists are highlighted in the May issue of the print magazine.
Now in its second year, the World Changing Ideas Awards showcases 12 winners and more than 200 finalists. A panel of eminent judges selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 1,300 entries in 12 categories, from Food to Energy to Developing World Technology. Honorees include big-name brands like Microsoft and Walmart, nonprofits like the Anti-Defamation League and Unicef, government programs from Los Angeles and Ontario, and innovative startups like Aerofarms, Aspiration, and Matternet. The 2018 awards featured entries from across the globe, from India to Brazil to Rwanda.
Fast Company’s May issue celebrates these world changing ideas, highlighting how Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has spearheaded a solution to the city’s housing crisis by using backyards as a building place for tiny houses; Facebook, whose Disaster Maps feature helps rescuers allocate resources after disasters; L’Oreal, which has designed a tool to make sure its products are as sustainable as possible; and The North Face, which has designed a new wool beanie that is sourced from sheep farms that use agricultural practices that emit less carbon than they produce.
